Our Mission at Reformation Lutheran Childcare Center

We see each child as God's gift and we care for each one with Christian compassion, love, and understanding through age-appropriate learning and activities.

The safety of our children, parents, and staff is of utmost importance. Please rest assured that we are doing all we can, including complying with Virginia Department of Health suggestions and guidelines, to ensure that we maintain a healthy and safe environment.

Learning and Living

Our Ministry of Learning and Living endeavors to provide opportunity for all ages to learn the gospel, or good news, of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and then encourage living out our faith;  believing that “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17 NKJV). Currently an adult bible study is typically held from 9:45-10:45am while Children’s Church is provided for young children during sermon time in the 11am worship. This ministry historically supports other faith forming activities such as Children’s Sunday School, Confirmation Classes, a Youth Program and Vacation Bible School when they are scheduled. Collaboration with other ministries such as our Child Care is also supported including weekly Pastor led Children’s Worship as part of Child Care and, historically, the Roots and Wings program sponsored by the Virginia Synod of the ELCA.    

 Menchville House

We support the Menchville House Ministry of Newport New by holding an annual July fundraising concert showcasing the talents of local volunteer performers. Solo or small ensemble performers historically include vocalists, instrumentalists and speakers interspersed with choir led audience participation. Advertising and operational costs are funding by a combination of internal funds and funds donated by Thrivent Financial through their Community Action Team Program. All donations by concertgoers are given directly to Menchville House. Additional income through other concert sponsored activity such as raffle, drawing or concession sale is also given directly to Menchville House. For the July 2020 concert a raffle for a 50” smart flat-screen TV is planned.

PORT (People Offering Resources Together)

According to their website: “PORT is an emergency winter shelter that hosts an average of up to 106 individuals per night, for 20 weeks during the winter. The name of this program really explains it all: it’s a safe harbor, made possible by a network of 130 interfaith (Christian and non-Christian) groups that provide their facilities, volunteers, food, hygiene items, showers, clothes and many other resources to homeless men, women and children in the area.”

We support PORT by twice annually volunteering personal service at selected PORT sheltering facilities including welcoming of guests, cooking and serving of supper and breakfast, and distribution of clothes and hygiene donations.
