Tidewater Concert Band and Ice Cream Social
Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 4 p.m.
The Tidewater Concert Band has provided musical entertainment for Hampton Roads, Virginia since 1971. The band is made up of volunteers of all ages and was organized in Portsmouth, Virginia in February 1971 by the late David Mitchell, a longtime band director at Churchland High School. David called on former band students, local band directors and other local musicians to form a fully-instrumented, top-notch community band. The band did a centerpiece performance at Yorktown's Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. The band has gone through many phases and musicians throughout its long history, but continues today to provide quality music to the community. The concert – weather permitting – is outside on the back lawn of Reformation along with ice cream and irresistible toppings. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an afternoon of rousing patriotic music and other popular selections to honor Armed Forces Day. The concert is open the public.
Contributions will be accepted to help support the Concert Series.
