Lyra

LYRA is a community of professional musicians most of whom are students or graduates of the St. Petersburg Conservatory and sing in churches and musical theaters throughout that city. Though members of LYRA represent different musical professions: choral conductors, opera singers, instrumentalists, music teachers, it is their passion for ensemble singing that unites them.

Anna Makarenko - soprano   Although she is a student at the St. Petersburg conservatory, Ms. Makarenko has gained much experience in singing in Opera being a member of the School of the vocal mastership by Mariinsky opera house in St. Petersburg.

Olga Guseva - mezzo-soprano  Ms. Guseva is a graduate of St. Petersburg Conservatory as an opera singer. She has pursued a solo career as a recitalist throughout Europe.  She collaborates with different choirs and orchestras on the continent.

Jury Gerasimov – baritone  Mr. Gerasimov graduated from St. Petersburg Academy of Culture in 1998. Now he is a principal conductor in the Transfiguration cathedral, one of the main cathedrals of St. Petersburg. He has had a large experience in performing Russian and European mediaeval music permanently taking a part in various seminars and festivals both in Russian and in Western European countries.

Miroslav Alexeev - bass   Mr. Alexeev is one of the eldest members of LYRA. Having a very deep voice he often sings as special guest soloist in many of the choirs of St. Petersburg.

Sergey Tupitsyn – tenor   Though Mr. Tupitsin graduated from St. Petersburg Conservatory as choir conductor in 1994. He has also done postgraduate studies at the St. Petersburg High School of Economy  (2000).  From 1992 - 2000 he was a singer in the "Konevets" male choral quartet, performing over 1000 concerts in different countries of the world. Now he spends his time as both a singer and a manager of the LYRA choir community.


The first part of the program opens with sacred music from the Russian Orthodox Church - famous composers like Arkhangelsky, Bortnianski, Kedrov, Tchesnokov, Strokin, Andreeva and other masters of choir music who are not well known outside of Russia.
The second portion of the program features Russian folk songs - comic, lyric, dancing, and love songs.

The concert is open to the public. A free-will offering will be received and a reception will follow the concert. Back to Top
