Who we are
Reformation Lutheran Church was founded in 1961 as part of the old United Lutheran Church. The following year it became part of the Lutheran Church in America and then in 1988 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Congregation was formed as a means of having a Lutheran presence in the Denbigh section of Newport News. Since 1961, Reformation has served our community in many and various ways. In 1998 the Reformation Lutheran Childcare was formed, serving children in our area from infancy through pre-school. The Congregation works with local charities like Thrive, Menchville House, the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula and Lutheran agencies like World Hunger Appeal and Lutheran Social Services. We are a people who believe in salvation by grace through the gift of faith and all are welcome in our family of faith. About the upcoming Mildred McDaniel Concert Series: Soundscapes Instrumental Ensemble
Soundscapes is based on El Sistema, a youth orchestra program that originated in Venezuela over forty years ago. Now found in more than 65 countries, El Sistema-inspired programs use music education and performance opportunities to give young people the skills they need to thrive and become engaged citizens. Soundscapes is the fourth oldest organization in the United States inspired by El Sistema, the first in Virginia, and a leader among American programs. This event is partially supported by a grant from the Newport News Arts Commission. The concert is free and open to the public. Contributions will be accepted to help support the Concert Series.

- Menchville House Ministries is Newport News' family emergency shelter focused on helping families regain stability through temporary housing, case management, and compassionate support. Menchville House began in 1998 as the vision of three women to establish a shelter for homeless women and their children. The community helped transform an apartment building into a group home, and the first family moved in during April 2001.
Today, Menchville House serves homeless families through private family rooms, coordinated entry partnerships, trauma-informed case management, and supportive services designed to help children and parents stabilize together. - The Mildred McDaniel Concert Series (MMCS) remains committed to quality music and the performing arts as well as the importance of music in education, mental wellness, entertainment and community healing. We will continue our mission: to provide the community with access to a broad spectrum of the musical arts. As always, patrons can continue to support the series through mail-in contributions. Vision: A world experiencing the difference God’s grace and love in Christ make for all people and creation. Purpose: Activate each of us so more people know the way of Jesus and discover community, justice and love.
Vacation Bible School
Reformation Lutheran Church hosts a wonderful week of Vacation Bible School (VBS) in July. Throughout the week, children come together to grow in faith, learn about God’s love, and enjoy Bible stories, music, crafts, games, and fellowship. It is a joyful week filled with laughter, friendship, and lasting memories.
